Western North Carolina is a wonderful place to call home. Located in a valley, Franklin is home to all kinds of outdoor fun, and even some indoor. Centered in the heart of the Nantahala National Forest, you are just minutes from hiking (The Appalachian Trail), kayaking, fishing, swimming and more. Not the outdoor type? Just a short drive to Cherokee to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park or Harrah's casino Maybe you like antiques? Wanna catch a great show? The The Smokey Mountain Center for the Performing Arts has a great line up year-round. Young or old we have activities for all ages, whether you want to spend you days walking through the antique malls or exploring our many waterfalls and topping it off with dinner at one of our wonderful local restaurants and a show. Have kids? Spend the day gem mining in Cowee, tubing the Little Tennessee or enjoying the fun of Sliding Rock in Cashiers. Visit the Chamber of Commerce to get an idea of all you can enjoy living here in the mountains.

The Town of Franklin has many festivals year-round to celebrate mountain life and heritage such as Taste of Scotland (always on Father's Day weekend), 4th of July Parade and Picnic, Mountain High BBQ and Car Festival, Pumpkinfest, Veteran's Parade, Annual Tree-lighting Ceremony and Candelight Service, Christmas Parade and Winter Wonderland. Also Heritage Day at Cowee School. How about grabbing a chair and sitting downtown to listen to live music every Saturday night at Picking on the Square to relax after a long day enjoying what the mountains have to offer.
